Set a tempo with the slider or tap it in, then press Start. The metronome begins muted, so use the speaker button to hear the click. Press Stop when you are done.

You can set the metronome from 20 to 240 BPM. The four beat indicators show the pulse, with an accent on the first beat. For practice, start at a tempo you can play comfortably and increase it as your timing becomes steady.

BPM means beats per minute. A tempo of 60 BPM has one beat each second; 120 BPM has two. The number describes how quickly the pulse repeats.

Tap the beat you would count or clap along with. Tapping every fast hi-hat note or only the first beat of each bar can produce a different reading from the main pulse.

You may be tapping a different pulse. A groove counted at 70 BPM can also be felt at 140 BPM if you tap twice as often. Decide which beat you are counting and keep your taps consistent.

Pause for more than two seconds, then tap again with the main pulse. If the result keeps drifting, try another section of the song with a clearer rhythm. Live performances and songs with tempo changes may not have one steady BPM throughout.

This tool measures your taps. It does not analyze uploaded audio, listen through your microphone or look up a song from a Spotify link.
